Pass the Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect Renewal in 2026!

This is the latest guide for passing the new 2026 Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect Renewal Exam. If you are not aware, in 2025 Google released a new shorter form renewal exam for the Professional Cloud Architect certification (PCA). This new exam basically halves the time and question count of the full PCA exam from 2->1hr and 50 questions ->25. The price has also gone from $200 -> $100. This is a great move from Google to assist current certification holders with a quicker and more cost effective renewal process. However it is still not as flexible as Microsoft's approach to renewal, which is a free renewal via Microsoft Learn including all the study material. The below guide is related to the new version of the Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect Renewal certification in 2026.

It's really amazing how fast time goes and this will now be my fourth renewal of this certification which means this will be my 5th PCA exam to take the certification up to 10 years in 2028! and I'm am really excited to share my study guide, advice, hints, links and any helpful information on the latest version of the exam. This exam guide is based on the PCA Renewal exam written and passed in 2026.

As of 2025, Google initiated a complete revision of the PCA and introduced the renewal exam which was really needed in order to keep up with the pace of innovation being released on the Google Cloud Platform over the last few years especially relating to the Vertex AI platform and Gemini. This exam has changed dramatically but still follows the same underlying architecture principals that we have grown accustomed to over the years using the Well Architected Framework and Google Cloud best practices.

As previously mentioned, the exam is based on 25 questions, which are displayed across either of the two case studies linked below, one of which you will be asked in the exam. You have one hour to complete the exam and the cost is $100. The exam is able to be taken at a testing center or remotely through Pearson VUE, Google's new examining partner. All bookings are managed via the Certmetrics platform. The exam is an advanced level certification so it is recommended to have some extensive real life experience hands on working with Google Cloud and especially across the latest AI products.

The latest 2026 PCA renewal exam is using the exam guide that can be worked through systematically: https://services.google.com/fh/files/misc/professional_cloud_architect_renewal_exam_guide_eng.pdf

The two questioned case studies, namely Cymbal Retail, and Altostrat Media, are both linked below. These case studies are really vital to the exam and are the core focus that you need to spend your time on. You will be asked questions on either of them in the exam. When spending time studying these case studies you will be introduced to or updated and refreshed on various new products and skills that are vital in order to cover off the PCA exam guide requirements, which are more AI/ML focused.

For the study material I highly recommend the following:

This is really great course material and hands on labs provided by Google on Skills Boost:

The labs on Qwiklabs are absolutely vital, especially if you do not have active hands on experience with working the latest cutting edge Vertex AI products and notebooks as well as prompt engineering with Gemini. I would recommend at the least, doing all of the listed labs on subjects you are unfamiliar with.

As this is basically an AI exam I also recommend the approach of studying using AI tools, namely Gemini in order to help you prepare a unique study plan that is focused on your current knowledge and experience, as this can help address any skill or knowledge gaps. This can be achieved by using the public facing Gemini LLM for prompts using the interactive GUI as well as helping you prepare with architecture tradeoffs across the case studies:

Gemini is incredibly impressive at its flexibility and knowledge around adapting to various different training skill levels, and is very helpful in knowledge transfer around Google Cloud architecture and best practice decision making, which is very important in this exam. After extensive testing and prompt engineering it seems to respond better than ChatGPT for studying PCA specific content at this stage.

Exam hint: You will not have enough time to read and learn the case studies during the exam, so please take advantage of the fact that you can download and work through these in your preparation. Having said that you do have just over 2 minutes per question so your time would be better allocated there.

I'm also going to link the below resources that are really helpful in the study process for this exam and I can recommend spending time going through all of these in detail before attempting your exam:

This is another recently posted blog post in 2026 on the PCA renewal which is very helpful:

With the above information you will also be ready to renew the PCA in 2026! Good luck! :)
